I graduated in 2007, with a Master of Economics and an apparently clear picture of the world economy. That apparently clear picture helped me land a teaching assistant role at the Faculty of Business and Economics. A year later a Macquarie degree and two reference letters helped me find a great job at a world leading Wall Street company famous for its award winning risk management solutions for the hedge fund industry. I had a lot to take in. It was like a whole new degree to learn. It then became clear that the academic fundamentals were vital and helped me quickly get up to speed. A few months in I was self-sufficient in managing the role and I started to notice the lack of a well-planned training program for new employees. So I helped design an all-new training program and became the head trainer for the APAC region. I was flying around the world between Asia and the US training new interns and providing consultancy to clients.
About five years into the job, I started to feel the need to do something more meaningful, something that makes me get up early in the morning. After all those years working closely with fund managers, the picture of the world of investment became clearer. And the focus of that world has just started to shift from the West to the East. My knowledge of the West and natural understanding of the East turned that picture into a vision. A vision of a well-integrated and established platform through which investors from China, Australia and beyond could invest for a brighter future for generations to come. I founded the Visionary Investment Group, a corporation that focuses on real estate development, cultural investment, funds management, and wealth management in April 2013. We then jointly established Richlink Capital Pty Ltd, a funds management business, with Richlink Capital Group, a reputable PE funds management company in China. Richlink Capital became the first Chinese funds manager with a subsidiary in Australia with an Australian Financial Services License. Today Visionary Investment Group and Richlink Capital Pty Ltd operate out of Sydney and employ about 20 full-time staff.
I am deeply grateful for what I have today and what tomorrow will bring. For that I need to thank Macquarie University with full appreciation. Macquarie did not give me what I have, but taught me how to get them.
