Faculty Advisory Board - Melinda Howes

In February 2010 Melinda took up the role of CEO of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, the sole professional body for actuaries in Australia. Actuaries practice in risk management, superannuation, investment and finance, life insurance, general insurance, health and climate change. Wherever there is uncertainty about a future financial outcome, actuaries can add signficant value both from a strategic and technical perspective.

An actuary, she has more than 20 years experience in the financial services industry, most of which has been spent in superannuation.

Previously she was the Director of Policy & Industry Practice at ASFA – The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia. Before joining ASFA, Melinda spent four years with ALEA Actuarial Consulting designing superannuation benefit projection tools, case studies, superannuation technical and educational support for a range of wealth management and financial planning clients.

Prior to that, she spent eleven years with BT in a variety of product, sales and education roles culminating in the role of Director of Superannuation and Retirement Products. She has also worked in life insurance and superannuation with Prudential.  Melinda is an alumni of Macquarie University having completed a BEc, Actuarial Studies.
