Profile
Anne Ross-Smith is Professor of Management Learning and Director of Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Macquarie University. Anne joined Macquarie in June 2010 after many years at the University of Technology Sydney where she was Head of the School of Management.
Anne’s PhD was a study of women in leadership and this led to a wide-ranging study in the influence of the presence of women has on organisational cultures at senior levels. One of her research interest is in the principles of feminism and women’s place in society and, in the recent years, she has been researching the role of women on corporate boards.
Anne has been the recipient of the UTS Excellence in Teaching Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Teaching (1999). In 2007, she won the UTS Human Rights Award, The Jo Wilton Memorial Award for Women, and the UTS Teaching Award for Internationalisation of Teaching and Learning. She was also awarded with the Australian Learning and Teaching Council Citation for sustained leadership and innovation in the internationalisation of teaching and learning in undergraduate business education in a Sino-Australian educational joint venture in 2008.

Anne is well known for her research in the areas of women in management and leadership, corporate governance and organisational studies. Her research has been published in leading international journals, particularly, in the field of gender and organisation studies. She is also an experienced qualitative researcher. Anne is willing to supervise HDR students who are interested in studying a topic in the area of her own research strengths and in the area of organisational studies including organisational change.
