Profile

Emeritus Professor Farhat Yusuf AM is associated with the Department of Marketing and Management, Faculty of Business and Economics at Macquarie University, and concurrently he holds the position of Honorary Professor in the Menzies Centre for Health Policy, School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney.

Previously he was Head of the Department of Business (now Department of Marketing and Management) for three years beginning February 2003, and a member of the Academic Senate at Macquarie University from 2003 to 2008. He has held visiting appointments in prestigious institutions such as Princeton University and Cornell University in the U.S., City University London and the University of Southampton in the U.K., and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

He was National President of the Australian Population Association (1984-86), President of the International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Sociology of Population (1999-2002), and Chair of the Scientific Panel on Business Demography convened by the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (2007-2009).

He has been a consultant for the U.N. and a number of other international organisations such as the International Agency for Research on Cancer (W.H.O.), the Arab League and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. His U.N. consulting work has involved travel to numerous countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of Asia-Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics, International Journal of Internet Marketing and Advertising, and Pakistan Journal of Statistics and Operations Research.

He has co-authored/edited four books, six book chapters and numerous research papers and technical reports. His publications have appeared in academic journals such as Population Studies, Journal of Biosocial Science, Journal of Population Research, Population Research and Policy Review, Journal of Public Health, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Medical Journal of Australia.

On Australia Day (January 26, 2015), Emeritus Professor Farhat Yusuf was conferred the award - Member (AM) in the Order of Australia Honours - in recognition of his "significant contribution to tertiary education as a specialist demographer, and to professional organizations in Australia and overseas".
