Profile

Massimiliano (Max) Tani joined Macquarie University in 2007, from the University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy. He has a PhD in Economics from the ANU. Before moving to Australia in 1999, Max worked for a decade in investment banking (Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase).

His research interests focus on human capital and migration, and especially its effect on international knowledge transfers.

He is joint coordinator of the Faculty’s Skilled Labour Group and a co-leader of the migration cluster at the Centre for Social Inclusion. Max also has several international linkages, including as a member of the permanent committee of Italian scientists abroad, a research associate at the Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA, Bonn), and a founding member of the Association for Research between Italy and Australasia - Canberra.
