Profile

As Australian President of AFAANZ (Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand) for 2011-2013, Associate Professor Sue Wright is invited to speak at national events and to publish papers on the Australian accounting education environment. Sue has been a director of AFAANZ since 2005, and has served as Treasurer, Research Director, and as Co-Director of the AFAANZ Doctoral Symposium since 2007.

Prior to entering academia, Sue worked in policy areas related to bank supervision and reporting for several years with the Reserve Bank of Australia. Her PhD examined the comparative information content of accounting and share prices for Australian banks 1960-1990.

Sue is a member of the Consultative Advisory Group to the IFAC (International Federation of Accountants) board, IAESB (International Accounting Education Standards Board). She currently serves the university on the University Library Committee. Her previous administrative roles include Academic Senate, Faculty Board, Faculty Research Committee, and acting Head of Department. In 2007 she was awarded an Outstanding Service Award by Macquarie University, in recognition of her long-term commitment to the work of the university and her achievements.

As a regular author on papers in the areas of corporate governance, capital markets, earnings quality, and financial reporting, Sue is an active higher degree supervisor of students in the honours, masters and PhD programs in these topic areas. She is also the co-author of several Australian textbooks, on financial statement analysis, investments, and introductory accounting.

Affiliations / activities

National Service to the Academic Community

Sue is the Australian President of AFAANZ (Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand). Her term as President is from 2011 to 2013. She has been a director of AFAANZ since 2005.

Sue’s role on the AFAANZ Board involves advocacy, talks, papers and representation of the Australian accounting education and research interests with the professional accounting bodies, professional accountants and senior academics in Australia and internationally.

Sue has previously served as a key member of the organizing committee for two separate international conferences, the Asian Academic Accounting Association Conference in 2006, and the Emerging Financial Markets and Services Conference, held in Sydney in May 2004.

International Service to the Accounting Community

Sue is a current member of the Consultative Advisory Group to the IFAC (International Federation of Accountants) board, IAESB (International Accounting Education Standards Board), as the Australasian representative on a select group of 15 academics and professional accountants from around the globe.

University Service

Sue is the Research representative for FBE (Faculty of Business and Economics) on the University Library Committee, and liaises with various external providers and internal users of databases and other library resources for the faculty.

In 2007 she was awarded an Outstanding Service Award by Macquarie University, in recognition of her long-term commitment to the work of the university and her achievements.

Faculty Service

Sue’s recent administrative service includes University Library Committee, and terms as Chair of the Division Honours Committee, member of the Faculty Advisory Board, member of the Faculty Research Committee, Deputy Head of Department, acting Head of Department, and Department Research Co-ordinator. Sue was a member of Academic Senate 2003 to 2005.
