Profile

Rahat has been an academic in accounting, banking and business studies disciplines for over 18 years. His teaching experience includes both undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in accounting and related subjects. Prior to joining Macquarie University in 2006, he worked for Greenwich University for 9 years (from 1987 to 1997) as Program Director (Academics). Rahat worked for the Institute of Bankers Pakistan as Director (Coordination) and subsequently as Executive Director - coordination for 8 years (from 1997 to 2005). During the last 10 years, Rahat has worked on various national and international projects. Rahat’s current area of research interests includes performance measurement systems, balanced scorecard, management control systems, banking systems in emerging markets. He has supervised Honours students successfully. He is affiliated with several professional bodies including Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA), Wilmington, USA. Rahat was the first Regional Director for Pakistan chapter. PRMIA’s mission is to provide a free and open forum for the promotion of sound risk management standards and practices globally. PRMIA is active in nearly every major financial centre worldwide and provides an extensive and engaged network of risk professionals in over 195 countries represented by nearly 60 chapters.

Research

 

Research Interests

Rahat’s research goal is to extend the understanding of the development of performance measurement systems in the organisations, in general, and banking institutions, in particular, by examining the factors which influence the organisations to change their performance measurement practices. This is an emerging area with important implications for the management accounting and organisational change literatures as well as practitioners in the banking sector in terms of managing organisational change in the context of performance measurement system into their business operations. His current research includes examining changes in the performance measurement practices in banks operating in emerging markets.  He has attended and presented papers in various national and international conferences in the field of accounting.
