Faculty Awards Night
The Faculty of Business and Economics Awards Night was held on the 23rd April to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Macquarie students within the faculty in 2008. The Executive Dean Professor Mark Gabbott, and Master of Ceremonies, Associate Professor for the Department of Accounting, Lorne Cummings welcomed distinguished students and their families.
There were twenty seven honours scholarships awarded to the graduating class of 2008 across five departments. Nine students from the Department of Accounting and Finance and ten students from the Department of Economics along with other high achievers were recognised for their dedication to their studies.
Other outstanding individuals were recognised throughout the evening including merit certificate winners, the G L Melville Actuarial Studies Scholarship winner, Annabelle Zhuo Chen and the Laurie Schachlin Memorial Scholarship winner, Jason Deng.
Faculty staff member and 2008 First Class Honours recipient Aleksandra Pop-Vasileva was the evening’s guest speaker and shared words of wisdom with the students embarking on the honours journey. “It was a challenge, but one I will be grateful for the rest of my life”, she said.
Also recognised at the event were the twelve staff members who received awards for their contribution to the Enhancement of Student Experience. Congratulations to Yvette Blount, Gordon Boyce, Craig MacMillan, Jenny Middledorp, Bob Miller, Julie Monteban, Nick Parr, Tony Bryant, Chris Heaton, Roselyne Joyeux, Daehoon Nahm and Roger Tonkin.
