  • Thesis title: How Digital Start-ups Achieve Traction?
  • Abstract: A powerful wave of digital innovation is washing away established business models and rules of business in many industries, a phenomenon described by Netscape founder Marc Andreessen as ‘software is eating the world’. Entrepreneurs building these digital ventures as social and marketplace platforms, mobile apps and software as a service (SaaS) have escaped rigorous academic reviews of their characteristics, actions, decision-making processes and methodologies. Recently, founders of successful Australian ‘digital Technology Innovative New Ventures (dTINVs)’ narrated their journeys to success in The Sunrise Conference. In-depth case studies will be built using these narrations and complemented with interviews to conduct a qualitative investigation into factors that determined their performance with a special focus on business modeling decisions leading to their initial sustainable success.
