FASTRACK Finalists from MQ

The Deloitte FASTRACK Innovation Challenge is a rigorous 12 week, fast-paced, experiential unit available through PACE within the Faculty of Business and Economics.

The program requires a group of students to develop a $50M innovation either for Deloitte, one of its clients or for national benefit. Students iterate ideas and prototypes, ultimately pitching to a panel of Deloitte Senior Executives competing for a $5,000 state-wide prize each semester.

Over 40 teams were involved in the Deloitte FASTRACK Challenge this semester with only 5 teams securing a place in the Grand Finals requiring them to pitch their innovation idea to a panel of senior executives from Deloitte.

This semester's Grand Final took place on Wednesday 4thJune with two Macquarie University teams comprised of third year undergraduate students competing against 3 teams from The University of Sydney's Masters of Commerce and Masters of Management program for the title of Deloitte FASTRACK Champions.

MQ Team 11, The Winnovators pitched a Hospital Smart Gown System which would allow medical practitioners to access real time information, reduce invasiveness of diagnosis, efficiency of nurse time and decrease nurse error.

MQ Team 5, iiNovation pitched Youtility Billing for Sydney Water which would involve the installation of smart water meters to replace traditional, manual water meters currently being serviced by Sydney Water. One of the projected benefits would see 15% water saving for homes amounting to 6.2 billion litres of water per month.

The contest was fierce and the quality of delivery extremely high. Both Macquarie University teams worked extremely hard, presented their pitches on the day with such professionalism and handled the panel's questions with ease. University of Sydney Team 2 were named winners on the day for their idea MediConnect - virtual health assessment platform that redistributes medical expertise to high demand areas. The judges appreciated the level of stakeholder engagement in the team's market research as well as their entertaining role play to demonstrate the idea. The team won $5000 and the FASTRACK Innovation Challenge Champion title.

We are very proud of both Macquarie University teams for making it to the Grand Final. Congratulations to The Winnovators (Elliot Ebeid, Malcolm Viraj Fernando, Olivia Malicki, Arnel Yutuc) and iiNovation (Lam Ya Cheung, Hannah Gupta, Jordan Yoosuff).
