Industry Based Learning

Macquarie University’s Faculty of Business and Economics and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK),  leading international healthcare provider, have partnered for an exclusive Industry Based Learning / Co-op program. 

The exclusive paid program offers second year undergraduate students the opportunity to work full-time in the areas of marketing, sales, finance and customer marketing. 

Following an exhaustive application process Annabel Fitzgerald, Ankita Agarwal, Marlon Shou and Vince Lichaa are the four successful recruits. They are looking forward to the opportunity to apply the theories learnt at University in the workplace. 

While the focus of the work placement program being offered by GSK is to increase the employability of business graduates, GSK’s Director of Human Resources Simon Cowl said the company definitely has something to gain from the program. 

“The program is absolutely seen as fundamental to the business...Apart from the tangible benefits to a company there are the intangible ones as well, student bring such an energy and enthusiasm into the workplace. They seem to energise the workplace and other members of the team” Mr Cowl said.

The GSK industry based learning program is offered under the new FBE 200 unit launched last year. This new initiative by the Faculty gives the students the opportunity to gain industry experience and receive academic credit at the same time. The program is designed to give students a better understanding of the actual work context of their studies and assist them in their future employment prospects.
