This talk is mainly for people interested in actuarial education. The CT4 Study Notes on Survival Models written by The Actuarial Education Company (ActEd) have a number of difficiencies and inadequacies that run against effective teaching, especially to bright students who are attracted to the ACST programs for their reputation of high-quality actuarial education. These include, among others:
(i) Introducing important and necessary concepts without adequate explanations and demonstration of examples;
(ii) Not fully meeting the objectives set by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust);
(iii) Failure to utilise available and effective mathematical tools to solve major problems in the syllabi of the education program of the IAAust.

In this talk, I will illustrate such difficiencies and inadequacies, and show how to overcome them.
