Accountants in the Profession (ACCG315) – Awards and Networking
Thursday 12th June marked the 50th Birthday of Macquarie University, and also the successful completion of the Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance's first PACE Unit - ACCG315.
The unit addresses the role of an accounting professional and helps students become familiar with regulatory, cultural and technological issues that affect accountants and the accounting profession. It was developed to help improve students' employability by offering them some 'real world' preparatory experience in the accounting profession.
The Department partnered with diverse professional organisations to deliver presentations throughout the semester. These presentations captured the breadth, scope and challenges of the accounting profession. Industry partners included:
- professional accounting bodies (ie CPA Australia and CIMA – UK),
- Big4 accounting firms (ie KPMG, PWC, Deloitte and E&Y),
- commercial and financial organisations (ie Cochlear Limited, Commonwealth Bank),
- NFP organisations (ie Whiddon Group),
- Public sector (ie Lane Cove Council), and
- small and medium size enterprises (ie EFS Strategic).
The Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance was very honoured to have Professor S Bruce Dowton, Vice Chancellor of Macquarie University, attend this event. Professor Dowton presented certificates to the top performing students and thanked participating industry partners with awards. Many Department, Faculty, PACE and Learning and Teaching staff were also in attendance at this event.
Congratulations to all students who received awards on the day and also to Professor Philomena Leung (Head of Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance) and Dr Rahat Munir, who coordinated every step of developing and implementing such a successful PACE unit.
