- Thesis title: The Internationalisation Strategies of German Renewable Energy Firms into Developing and Emerging Markets: An Interdependency Model
- Purpose: This paper aims to identify triggers and moderating factors impacting the internationalisation process of developed countries’ firms. It helps to gain a deeper understanding on how and why companies adopt strategies to internationalise beyond their region. Data will be drawn from qualitative and empirical findings from the internationally expanding German renewable energy industry.
- Originality: Very limited previous research has focused on triggers and moderators of firms from developed countries internationalising into emerging and developing markets. Moreover, this paper adds to the growing research in the renewable energy industry.
- Key Literature/theoretical perspective: This research draws upon the International-New-Venture and the Neo-Institutionalism theory. Based on these theories and findings of this study, a conceptual framework will be developed.
- Design/methodology/approach: A sequential exploratory research design including both qualitative and quantitative methods will be adopted. More specifically, semi-structured interviews and an online-survey will be conducted.
- Research limitations/implications: As this study focuses solely on the German renewable energy industry, its scope of investigation is limited. Therefore, the generalisability of the findings to other industries and countries needs to be tested further.
- Practical and social implications: This research will help managers in the German renewable energy industry to align their current internationalisation strategies to effectively leverage risks and increase profitability.
