  • Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore the contribution of cultural capital and creative labour to long-term economic and cultural growth. Cultural capital, by definition is the only type of capital that can give rise to both economic and cultural value. In economics, labour is considered one of the factors of production and, recently in cultural economics literature it has been argued that creative labourers in general and artists in particular are different than ordinary labourers for two reasons: first, that creativity is an essential input in production of cultural goods and services; second, that the primary incentive of innovation is likely to be non-financial. Therefore, they must be classified under a different heading. This research examines the potential for endogenous growth theory, in which cultural capital and creative labour are employed, to suggest an appropriate path for growth.
