The Chairman of Nestle recently stated that water is the most important sustainability issue facing the world today. In an effort to manage this most precious resource, a myriad of accounting approaches and standards have been developed, and businesses and governments across the globe are grappling with the best way to communicate water-related issues to their stakeholders. This presentation will provide an overview of the most important elements of water disclosures and recent developments in water accounting standards and practices. The presentation will also consider future possibilities for enhanced disclosures that might provide substantial benefits for both internal and external stakeholders.
