    Renee B. Adams is Professor of Finance at the University of New South Wales. She is also the Director of UNSW Business School's Women in Leadership Network, Director of the Finance Research Network (FIRN), an Affiliate of LSE's Financial Markets Group, Senior Fellow at the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research and Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute. She holds an M.S. in Mathematics from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.

    Dr Katja Ignatieva

    Katja is a senior lecturer in the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies at UNSW Australia Business School. She joined UNSW in November 2011 after completing her Co-tutelle PhD in Finance at Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany and Macquarie University Sydney. Katja's research interests lie in the area of quantitative finance, in particular, financial econometrics, derivative pricing and risk management. Katja performs empirical research in financial markets, commodity and energy markets, and insurance. Katja has publishes her research in the top tier international journals such as Journal of Business & Economic Statistics and Insurance: Mathematics and Economics among others.

  • Speaker:

    Dr Talis Putnins, Professor in the Finance Discipline Group at UTS & a member of the Quantitative Finance Research Centre. 

    He has also held positions at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and the Baltic International Centre for Economic Policy Studies, and has been a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University and New York University. His main research interests include financial markets, market microstructure, market manipulation, insider trading and shadow economies. His research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Review of Finance, and Experimental Economics. Talis is the recipient of a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council (ARC). Talis has done consulting and policy work for governments, stock exchanges, and financial institutions and served as an expert witness in legal cases. Talis has a PhD from the University of Sydney.

  • Speaker:

    Stephen Gray is Professor of Finance at UQ Business School.  His work on empirical finance, asset-pricing and corporate finance has been published in leading academic and practitioner journals, and has been recognised via a number of awards for research manuscripts and teaching excellence.

    He has Honours degrees in Commerce and Law, and a PhD in financial economics from Stanford University. 

    He is an active consultant to industry on issues relating to valuation, cost of capital, and corporate financial strategy and he has appeared as a valuation expert in several court proceedings.

    Dr Reza Bradrania, a lecturer in Finance at the University of South Australia. He holds a Master degree in Finance and Investment from Durham University in the UK and a PhD in Finance from the University of Sydney Business School. His main research interests and expertise include asset pricing, investment and behavioural finance.  He has published in premier journals and conferences and has delivered numerous lectures, seminars, and workshops for both academics and industry practitioners. He has several years of experience as an Associate Director, Director and Senior Consultant in Investment Banking, Private Equity and Management Consulting firms.

  • Speaker:

    Dr Patrick McConnell

    In over 30 years in the financial industry, Dr McConnell has worked as a senior manager in, and consulted to, large banks in the US, Europe and Australia. Dr McConnell is an Honorary Fellow at Macquarie University Applied Finance Centre (MAFC) and has also taught Operational and Market Risk at Trinity College, Dublin. Dr. Mc Connell holds degrees in Mathematics, Operational Research and Business Administration and has published many articles on Risk Management in academic and practitioner journals.  

    Dr. McConnell has written widely on Operational Risk and has written form and been guest editor for the Journal of Risk Management in Financial Institutions on Behavioural Finance. His particular research interests are in People/Conduct Risk, Systemic Operational Risk and the Strategic Risks faced by Systemically Important Banks. He has jointly authored a book on People Risk Management which was published in early 2015.  His latest book on Systemic Operational Risk was published in August 2015 by Risk Books.

    Dr Yulia Veld-Merkoulova, Associate Professor of Finance at Monash University.

    She received a PhD in Finance from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Prior to joining Monash, Dr Veld-Merkoulova held academic positions at Glasgow University, University of Stirling and Erasmus University. Dr Veld-Merkoulova's research interests include corporate finance, behavioural finance, and derivatives markets. Her research has been published in various journals in economics, management and finance, including Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance and Financial Management. Her research has been recognized with several research awards, and featured in industry and media outlets such as CFA Digest, New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

    Mark's research interests include the determinants and consequences of company disclosure in share markets, valuation and intangible assets. Mark has been a lecturer in the UQ Business School at the University of Queensland since 2010. And he doesn't call himself a Queenslander yet. Mark is a PhD graduate of the University of Technology Sydney, a MBA graduate of UNSW and an Arts-Law graduate of the University of Melbourne. Mark's research is published in Accounting & Finance, Accounting Research Journal, and the Pacific Accounting Review.

  • Speaker:

    Angel Zhong, a PhD student in Banking and Finance, Monash University. 

    She is currently in the third year of her PhD and expects to graduate in May, 2016. Her thesis focuses on the impact of limits-to-arbitrage on the Australian equity market. She is supervised by Prof. Philip Gray and Dr. Philip Gharghori. Angel has published in journals such as International Review of Financial Analysis and JASSA. She also has other working papers that have been presented or accepted for presentation at recognized finance conferences. Her teaching experience includes conducting tutorials for four undergraduate units: Corporate Finance, Advance Corporate Finance, Equity and Investment Analysis and Financial Management.
