Prominent debt expert's visit

Professor Edward AltmanProfessor Edward Altman from the Stern School of Business, New York University visited the Centre for Financial Risk from 15 March – 15 April.

As part of his visit, he was the keynote speaker at Financial Risk Day 2013, and presented a separate half-day workshop on Credit Risk and Investment Management at Macquarie University’s Applied Finance Centre in Sydney’s CBD.

Professor Altman is an expert on analysing current conditions and will offer his insights on global corporate and sovereign credit markets and the market for distressed debt.

His areas of interest include

  • yield spreads and what they tell us
  • the connection between the real economy and default rate on corporate bonds in the context of the outlook for the US economy
  • the future of the Euro
  • an original assessment of the risk of default on sovereign debt using a bottom-up approach, and
  • insights into the risk/return tradeoff on risky debt
