Higher Degree Research EXPO 19th November 2010
EXPO was an event which showcased the work of Higher Degree Research candidates in the Faculty of Business and Economics. It was a research intensive day bringing together early career researchers, academic colleagues, industry, alumni and the general public to promote and advance research.
EXPO is an ideal forum for collaborative, focused discussion on cutting-edge research.
The day provided excellent opportunities for prospective PhD students in Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Studies, Business, Business Law and Economics to find out about current research topics in the Faculty. Six concurrent sessions ran throughout the day, with research candidates giving a 15 minute scholarly presentation followed by 5 minutes for questions, comments and discussion.
This year, following the theme of the highly successful Value Lecture Series the theme centred around valuing higher degree research and research in general. Our 2010 keynote speaker was Dr David Skellern, a highly successful university researcher who combined his background in scientific research with industrial R&D through commercialisation joint management of a successful start-up company, Radiata.
The day started with a keynote on "The role of ICT in transforming business" by Dr David Skellern - CEO of NICTA, successful ICT entrepreneur and former Macquarie University Professor and Head of Electronics.
In 2010, the HDR Expo was held at The Grace Hotel.
