Prizes and Scholarships

A number of general Macquarie University scholarships are available.

Unit specific prizes and scholarships are also available to students enrolled in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Scholarships

The Deutsche Bank Scholarship in Actuarial Studies

Deutsche Bank, in collaboration with the Department of Actuarial Studies at Macquarie University, will be awarding the inaugural Deutsche Bank Scholarship in Actuarial Studies in 2009.

The Scholarship, valued at AUD$10,000 per annum for three years*, will be awarded to a first year Actuarial Studies student at Macquarie University. In addition, the Scholarship recipient will complete a four week placement within the Global Markets or Global Banking division of Deutsche Bank Australia in Sydney in July each year.

All first year Actuarial Studies students are encouraged to apply. Applications for the Scholarship close on Friday 8th May 2009.

GL Melville Actuarial Studies Scholarship and the Laurie Schalchlin Memorial Actuarial Scholarship

These scholarships are available to students enrolled in or intending to enrol in the Bachelor of Commerce – Actuarial Studies program, or a combined actuarial studies program. They are open to both high school leavers and continuing Macquarie students. The scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, financial need and the personal circumstances of the applicant. Each scholarship is valued at $2,500.

Honours Scholarships – Accounting and Finance

A limited number of "full" scholarships of $10,000 and “half” scholarships of $5,000 are available on a competitive basis for full-time study.

Honours Scholarships – Economics

All Economics Honours students will be considered for a part scholarship, based on academic merit. For further details contact the Honours co-ordinator, Dr Tony Bryant.

Honours Scholarships – Business

All full-time and part-time Honours students will be considered for a part scholarship, based on academic merit. For further details contact the Honours co-ordinator, Assoc. Professor Peter McGraw

Tress Cocks and Maddox Scholarship in Law

This scholarship is available to full-time students enrolled in the BA LLB, BA-Psy LLB, BSc-Psy LLB, BAppFin LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB, BCom-Accg LLG, BCom-ActStud LLB, BCom-Mktg LLB, BEc LLB, BMedia LLB, BsocSc LLB, or BSc LLB, BEnvMgt LLB, BEnvSc LLB degree programs. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, financial need and the personal circumstances of the applicant. Candidates for the scholarship must be permanent residents of Australia. The scholarship is valued at $2,000 and will normally be tenable for one year only.

The Alf and Pearl Pollard Memorial Prize

Awarded to the most outstanding student in the fourth year of undergraduate study at the Faculty of Business and Economics.

The AMP Prize for Actuarial Control Cycle 1  

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ACST400 Actuarial Control Cycle 1.

The AMP Prize for Quantitative Methods for Asset Liability Management

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ACST305 Quantitative Methods for Asset Liability Management.

The Assoc Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ACST212 Combinatorial Probability.

The Australia-Japan Society Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in 300-level Japanese. as well as a significant contribution to the study of Japan, and to future Japan-Australia relations.

The Australian Finance Conference Prize for Money and Finance

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ECON350 Money and Finance.

The Australian Finance Conference Prize for Issues in Competition, Corporations and Securities Law

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit LAW528 Issues in Competition, Corporations and Securities Law.

The Australian Financial Review Prize for Applied Finance

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit FIN310 Issues in Applied Finance.

The Basil Branford Memorial Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in ACCG340 Auditing and Assurance Services.

The Blake Dawson Waldron Prize for International Trade and Finance

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit LAW410 International Trade and Finance.

The Chartered Accountants Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for best overall academic performance in 100-level accounting units.

The CCH Prize for Revenue Law

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit BUSL320 Revenue Law.

The Commonwealth Bank Prize for International Finance

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ECON360 International Finance.

The Co-op Bookshop Prize for Human Resource Development

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit HRM 207 Human Resource Development.

The CPA Australia Prize for Prize for 100-level Accounting

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the units ACCG100 Accounting 1A and ACCG101 Accounting 1B.

The CPA Australia Prize for Prize for 200-level Accounting

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the units ACCG200 Fundamentals of Management Accounting and ACCG201 Organisational Planning and Control.

The CPA Australia Prize for Prize for 300-level Accounting - Graduating Student

Open to all students who will graduate with the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the units ACCG310 Corporate Accounting and Reporting and ACCG323 Financial Accounting Theory and Practice.

The CPA prize includes one year free membership to the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, two modules (paid) of the CPA Program and a CPA medallion.

The Econometrics Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded to the student with the highest average mark in second and third year econometrics units.

The Hays Accountancy Personnel Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in ACCG200 Fundamentals of Management Accounting.

The Hubert Vaughan Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for the most meritorious performance in the unit ACST354 Survival Models.

The KPMG Actuaries Prize for First Year Actuarial Studies

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor with a coherent study in Actuarial Studies. Awarded for the most meritorious performance in first year units in the Actuarial Studies program.

The KPMG Actuaries Prize for Second Year Actuarial Studies

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor with a coherent study in Actuarial Studies. Awarded for the most meritorious performance in second year units in the Actuarial Studies program.

The KPMG Actuaries Prize for General Insurance Pricing and Reserving

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ACST357 General Insurance Pricing and Reserving.

The Jim Jones Memorial Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ECON203 Microeconomic Analysis.

The Macquarie Foundation Kathryn Murphy Memorial Prize

Open to all female students proceeding to the honours degree of Bachelor in the Faculty of Business and Economics. Awarded for academic merit in 300 level units taken in the Faculty of Business and Economics. Supported by the University’s Alumni.

The Macquarie University Accounting and Finance Prizes

These prizes are open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in each of the following undergraduate Accounting and Finance units.

The Macquarie University Business Prizes

These prizes are open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in each of the following undergraduate Business units.

The Macquarie University Business Department Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the BBA program in Singapore.

The John Wiley & Sons International Marketer for the Year Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit MKTG209 International Marketing.

The Peter Hains Memorial Prize for Actuarial Studies

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ACST355 Contingent Payments 2.

The Peter Hains Memorial Prize for Economics

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the units ECON203 Microeconomic Analysis and ECON204 Macroeconomic Analysis.

The PricewaterhouseCoopers Prize for Accounting and Financial Management

Open to all students who have completed, in the current year, the requirements for the degree of Bachelor with a coherent study in accounting and finance and who have not previously completed a degree. Awarded for the best performance in units offered by the Department of Accounting and Finance.

The UFJ Bank Limited Prize for 300-Level Japanese Economic Studies

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit BBA321/ECON394 The Japanese Economy.

The Victor Argy Memorial Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ECON311 Macroeconomic Policy.

The Westpac Macroeconomics Prize

Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor. Awarded for proficiency in the unit ECON110 Macroeconomic Principles.
